There has been a lot of new food that everyone has tried. The fruit has a different taste which makes it better. For breakfast there has been cereal, rice and beans, fresh fruit, eggs, and many more things. We have eaten different types of food for lunch. We have had Italian, Mexican, and traditional Costa Rican food. My favorite thing I have tried is the batidos. A batido is cross between a smoothie and a shake. Everyone is trying new things, even if the food does not look that good.

The best thing is the fruit. The fruit is freshly picked and served right away. The pineapple is much sweeter than in Kansas. Everyone always has a big plate of fruit when they come to the table. When asked about the fruit here, Sienna said, “the fruit is good, it gives me sores... OUCHY”. - Callie

The food in the homestay was very different. The most common foods that our families made were chalupas, arroz con leche, and gallo pinto. The chalupas are not like they are at Taco Bell. They are a flat shell with beef or chicken, beans, cabbage, and tomatoes. They put ketchup and mayo on everything! The arroz con leche was a creamy sweet rice. Gallo pinto is rice and beans. For breakfast, lunch, and dinner they would have gallo pinto on the table!
